Amir Khan on the Joshua vs. Fury Mega Fight

We’re big boxing fans here at TPW, which is why when we heard that Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have agreed to initial terms for a two-fight deal, to say we were excited is an understatement.
It’s not that we didn’t expect it, when two of the best heavyweights (both British), hold all the belts between them it would be the logical next step.
However, in a sport where one punch can change the course of a fighter’s career, these mega fights don’t always get made.
Yet, with Eddie Hearn (Joshua’s promoter) confirming that both camps have agreed to the deal and Tyson Fury tweeting “the biggest fight in British boxing history has just been agreed”, it now looks more promising than ever.
To get an inside look at what may very well be the biggest fight of 2022 we got together with 2x world champion boxer Amir Khan. Head over to our Instagram Page for the full interview: https://www.instagram.com/p/CBTDLNcnjjN/
To understand the hype around a fight that Amir believes “for British fans would be massive” you need to know the journey both these fighters have taken over their careers and in particular the last 2 years.
In 2018, Tyson Fury came back from a 2-year layoff to challenge Deontay Wilder, a fearsome heavyweight with an incredible record of 40 – 0 and a staggering 39 knockouts.
The fight ended in what was considered a controversial draw for both fighters and a rematch was hastily scheduled.
In the meantime, Anthony Joshua suffered a stunning defeat at the hands of Andy Ruiz Jr in June of 2019.
In a fight where Andy Ruiz Jr was a massive underdog after taking the fight at short notice, it was not the outcome anyone expected and propelled Ruiz Jr to stardom as the first-ever Mexican heavyweight champion.
Again, a rematch was swiftly scheduled for December 7th of the same year. This time Joshua of old return to put on a masterclass to unanimously regain all his titles and cement himself once again as a prime contender in the division.
Not to be upstaged Fury convincingly defeated Wilder with a 7th round TKO, a result that Amir believes “cemented his name to be massive in the sport”.
With both fighters in winning form their match up is the perfect fan fight but it still anyone’s guess as to what will happen when they meet.
Amir feels it’s tempting, based on what we’ve seen, to feel like “no one is going to touch him [Fury]” but at the same time with Joshua being such a formidable opponent you can help but feel that “AJ would definitely give him problems”.
As fans of the sweet science already know and Amir reminds us, when you step into the ring you leave it all on the line and “anything can happen”.
So, we’re left wishing and hoping for what promises to be an incredible fight between 2 of the best British heavyweights the sport has to offer, but right now the only thing we know for certain is that we’ll be ringside when that first bell rings.
